I build automations and train the teams who run them.

Over 25 years in IT, 15 of them in consultancy: a master's in Computer Security and Forensics, and hands-on work in cloud, automation and security monitoring for clients in banking, insurance, legal, professional services, retail, construction, education and healthcare, among others.

Take the security label off and it's the same work every operations team needs. Much of it was automation before anyone called it that, such as systems that wrote their own documentation and checked their own work.

Cutting running costs without losing anything is a big part of that work. One client produced 40 terabytes of security data a day. All of it went to a low-cost data platform first, and under 1% was passed on to the expensive monitoring system. Everything else stayed in the platform for a year, so nothing was lost. Modelled at today's prices, that design saves more than £9 million a year compared with sending everything, and it became a service we ran for several more clients. We built it before Microsoft offered a cheaper option of its own.

More recently, over the last 18 months, we've delivered seven projects that took manual work off IT security teams.
